Bridge of Gaur Guesthouse

Tranquil retreat offering Bed & Breakfast and evening meals at the west end of Loch Rannoch in the heart of Highland Perthshire.

Located 5 miles from Rannoch Moor (one of the last wilderness areas in Europe), the peaceful setting of the Bridge of Gaur Guesthouse is the perfect place for walkers, cyclists, artists and anglers, as well as nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Situated within 35 miles of the picturesque towns of Pitlochry and Aberfeldy.
Previously a farmhouse, it was built in 1878 by Sir Robert Menzies with Scottish granite near the River Gaur and Loch Rannoch. Your hosts Eddie and Heather renovated and refurbished the guesthouse to a high standard to offer accommodation with river, hill, and mountain views.

The accommodation features 2 super king / twin bedrooms which each have an ensuite shower room. There is also a super king / twin with private facilities (bathroom with bath with shower over, wash basin, toilet, bathrobes and slippers). For groups which are travelling together, this bathroom can be shared with another super king / twin bedroom.
Guests can relax in the cosy lounge with woodburning stove, TV and games. Families with children are welcome.
Dogs are welcome for a small charge. Drying towels, water and food bowls can be provided as well as a sausage for breakfast!

Food & Drink

A full cooked breakfast is served in the dining room which has views down to the Bridge of Gaur and with a backdrop of the hills and mountains to the south. Hearty homecooked evening meals are made by Heather with a wide choice of 2 or 3 courses. Local produce is used wherever possible including seasonal home grown salads and vegetables. Free range eggs and wild venison are sourced from nearby country estates. The guest house is fully licensed and offers a selection of beers, wines and spirits including single malt whiskies to complement your evening meal.
As the guest house has a licence to sell alcohol under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, it is exempt from requiring a Short-Term Let licence.

Location & Activities

The Bridge of Gaur Guesthouse is the ideal place to escape and get away from it all. With the loch and river on the doorstep, you can enjoy fishing, canoeing, paddleboarding or wild swimming. There are lots of opportunities for on and off road cycling, as well as hikes up Munros and Corbetts including Schiehallion (1083 metres) and Meall Buidhe (910 metres). There are plenty of forestry tracks to discover and footpaths to Glencoe, Bridge of Orchy and Glen Lyon or head north on The Road to Isles. You can even try Geocaching. You may be lucky enough to spot some of the wildlife in this area which includes sea eagles, golden eagles, ospreys, otters, pine marten, red deer, red squirrels and Capercaillie.

There are numerous Outlander locations to visit in the vicinity including Craigh na Dun, Loch Faskally and The Hermitage. You can also explore the Clan Trail around Loch Rannoch where you can learn about the MacDonalds, Menzies, MacGregors, MacDougalls, Robertsons, Stewarts and Camerons and their connections to the area.
From Rannoch Station (5 miles away), you can take the train on the famous West Highland Line to Fort William and Mallaig. This journey is rated as one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world. During the summer months, a steam train also operates between Fort William and Mallaig.
