Drummond Castle

Situated at Muthill near Crieff. One of the finest formal gardens in Europe, first laid out in the early 17th century. Gardens open at Easter, then from May to October 1pm - 6pm. Admission charge. Note: the castle itself is not open to the public. The gardens were used for in season 2 of the Outlander TV series as the Palace of Versailles.

The Hermitage Garden

The Hermitage Garden, by Dunkeld (National Trust for Scotland). Once part of one of the most important 18th century picturesque landscapes in Scotland, an attractive woodland walk leads though spectacularly large Douglas firs to the amazing folly, Ossian's Hall overlooking the Black Linn waterfall. A famous Douglas fir is one of the tallest trees in Britain. Open daily all year. Free admission.

Megginch Castle Gardens

Megginch Castle Gardens, Errol. 7 miles from Perth and 8 miles from Dundee. A 15th century castle, altered by Robert Adam in 1790, with a 19th century garden. Ancient yews, topiary, an astrological garden, a fountain parterre, a courtyard with a dovecote and a walled garden with a long herbaceous border. Open daily April to October 2pm to 5.30pm. Admission charge.

The Scottish Plant Hunters Garden

This wonderful six acre wooded garden in Pitlochry is open from April through to November. Divided into different parts of the world, it tells the story of Scotland’s successful Plant Hunters from days gone by. Sponsored by the botanical gardens of Edinburgh and Kew, the Royal Horticultural Society as well as private backers, they travelled the world searching for rare and unknown plants and flowers to bring back to our shores. Guided tours are available telling the story of their incredible exploits and wondrous finds

Scone Palace

Near Perth. Once the crowning place of the Kings of Scots, Scone Palace occupies a unique position in the history of Scotland. A breathtakingly beautiful place of power and mystery and the rightful home of the celebrated Stone of Scone - also known as the Stone of Destiny. The palace is open daily from 1 April - 31 October. In the winter, the palace is closed but the gardens are open Friday-Sunday (closed mid December to early February). Admission charges apply.
