Scotland's Best B&Bs
Newton Farm Holidays & Tours in Angus offers award-winning farm tours and experiences together with 4 Star GOLD B&B accommodation. It's the ideal holiday base for families and in this blog Sophie Thompson recounts her experience of staying there and meeting all the animals.
I’m heading to Newton Farm Holidays and Tours for a rural retreat! I’ve booked in to stay at their Farm House Bed & Breakfast. It’s located in Angus, a 20-minute drive from Dundee and just 1 hour 30 minutes north of Edinburgh.
As I drive through the countryside, I can feel the stress of daily life fading away. The picturesque views that greet me are breath taking and just a taste of the next few days. As I drive down the farm track, I’m welcomed by views of the farm animals grazing in the fields. I can’t wait to experience a stay in an authentic Scottish Farm House Bed and Breakfast.
I’m greeted by Farmer Lou, her and her husband Graeme are the hosts. She asks how my journey was and shows me to my room. I’m staying in the large family room which is beautifully decorated with traditional Scottish Farm House vibes. It’s super comfortable and homely. There’s everything I need from complimentary tea, coffee and mini fridge, to information about the local area. The room can sleep up to 4 people with 1 double bed and 1 double sofa bed, so it's ideal for families. Pets are welcome by arrangement too.
I’m really excited about going on the Newton Farm award-winning Farm Tour, I’ve been following them on Facebook and enjoy seeing Farmer Lou’s video updates of life on the farm. It will be awesome to meet all the animals!
The tour starts with a warm welcome from Farmer Lou, we then head to meet Lucy the pig, she is super sociable and trots over to say hello!
The goats are in the next field and come over to the fence to greet us, they like a stroke and a good scratch on the head! As we’re walking around the farm it’s interesting to learn about all the animals and hear a few funny stories too!
It’s time to head to the Alpacas, they are grazing in the field when Lou calls them, they come running over. It’s such a heart-warming sight, they are so adorable! We get to hand feed them and of course this is a perfect photo opportunity.
It’s Springtime on the farm and the barn was like a nursery for all the new arrivals! We met the new born kids and saw them feed from their mum. I also got to bottle feed a lamb, which was a beautiful experience.
The highlight of my trip was the Highland Coo Experience. I’ve only ever seen them from a distance but this was a chance to go into the field and groom them. They are beautiful creatures and a true Scottish treasure. Hetty was so patient whilst I groomed her, she particularly enjoyed her neck being brushed.
This holiday was just what I needed, a chance to switch off, reconnect with the countryside and explore. It’s such a unique experience to be hosted in a bed and breakfast. For me it’s the attention to detail, personalised experience and outstanding service. Lou went above and beyond to make my stay amazing.
She was so knowledgeable about the local area and happy to recommend places to visit based on my requirements. If you’re looking for a rural retreat with bespoke 5-star customer service and a warm welcome, then Newton Farm Holidays is the place.
