Covid-19 Guidelines

Specific Bed and Breakfast Guidelines for Covid-19

Page last updated 29 June 2020

Please note this page is designed to be a helpful resource for any B&B owners.

The aim of these documents is to provide some helpful guidance and a framework which individual businesses may wish to use and adapt as they see fit. Recognising that all B&B establishments are different, we hope these guidelines will help you to create your own risk assessment.

Scotland's Best B&Bs have created specific guidelines for re-opening a small bed and breakfast business in the context of Covid-19. These have been adapted (with permission) from the document produced by the Association of Scottish Self-Caterers (ASSC).

Specific Guidelines for Bed and Breakfast Businesses (PDF, 1 MB). Version 3, dated 29 June 2020
The list of amendments made in Version 3 (compared to the previous version of this document) is given on page 3 of the PDF.

To fill in your own Risk Assessment and Check List, you may wish to use this Word document template so you can customise it. (Version 3, dated 29 June 2020)

These guidelines have been accepted by VisitScotland. These, like all the other guidelines, will be changed as appropriate over time and, of course we would value your input. Please email us if you have any problems or comments - [email protected]

Additional resources:

The ASSC is also continuously updating their Cleaning Protocols document and an associated FAQ with additional questions. You can download their latest versions via their site.

VisitScotland has endorsed the UK-wide Good to Go self-certification scheme.
VisitScotland has a page with lots of useful information links for re-opening: Get Tourism Ready.
