Travelling in Scotland by Bus

Travel by bus

The bus service in Scotland is a well used mode of public transport. The services near and between the cities and bigger towns across Scotland are extensive but there is a good service in many of the more remote communities.

For the longer distance services between the cities and major towns, it is a relatively inexpensive way of travelling. It is suggested that for timetables for local service journeys which have many smaller operators, it is recommended that you check local visitor information centres and libraries.

For information on all the services, you may find the following links to be useful:

  • Scottish Citylink and Stagecoach. There is also a new daily service throughout the summer by Stagecoach across the Cairngorms National Park and joins up with communities in the Park with Perth and Inverness. This service also carries cycles.
  • Traveline Scotland, Traveline UK and Transport Direct are useful sources of information when you are planning an itinerary or for more general information.
